6 Days Rwanda Wildlife safari tour This 6 Days Rwanda primates safari is designed for those who wish to go for Chimpanzee tracking and a canopy walk in the Nyungwe montane forest before transferring later to Volcanoes national park Rwanda for mountain gorilla trekking. The package involves several other interesting activities in some of the best Rwanda wildlife safari destinations – Lake Kivu, visiting the Iby’iwacu cultural village and touring one of the 1994 Rwanda genocide memorial sites. You will finish the safari feeling very satisfied with your trip and the beauty of Rwanda. Nyungwe Canopy Walk – Rwanda Day 1: Airport/Hotel Pick up – Transfer to Nyungwe forest The Driver guide will pick you from the airport or your hotel and brief you on your overall tour before starting the journey to Nyungwe forest. Nyungwe forest in located in the south western part of the country is famous for chimpanzee tracking, spotting other primates and taking forest canopy walks. The journey takes about 5 hours but you won’t get bored as the scenery and landmarks along the way is simply amazing – Rwanda has a beautiful countryside. Dinner and Overnight will be in Nyungwe Forst Lodge (Luxury), Nyungwe Top View Hotel (Mid-range) or Gisakura Guest House (Basic). Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking – Canopy walk You will wake up early, take breakfast and go for briefing on chimpanzee tracking at the Nyungwe forest headquarters. The briefing is an overview about what to expect during chimpanzee trekking and is usually conducted by a senior guide. Once you are done with briefing, you will head to the forest along with your guide and porter. The guides and porters know the best places to find the chimpanzees and will help you throughout the tracking. After finishing, head back to the lodge for lunch and rest. Later in the afternoon, you will be taken for a forest canopy walk a the Nyungwe forest were you will have a chance to spot trees and birds of different species. Watch out for other primates on top of the trees. Dinner and Overnight will be in Nyungwe Forst Lodge (Luxury), Nyungwe Top View Hotel (Mid-range) or Gisakura Guest House (Budget). Day 3: Transfer to Lake Kivu – Go for an afternoon boat ride You will wake up and take breakfast at your leisure, then get ready to set off for Lake Kivu. Lake Kivu is the largest lake in Rwanda and is famous for its boiling methane gasses underneath. Once you arrive, have lunch and a short rest at your lodge. In the afternoon, you will go for a boat trip along the Lake that will give you a chance to hop between the different islands in the lake. Afterwards relax by the Lake shores for the remaining part of the evening. Dinner and overnight at Lake Kivu Serena hotel (Luxury), Paradise marahide (Deluxe) and Palm Resort Gardens (Budget). Day 4: Tour Lake Kivu and the fishing villages – Transfer to Volcanoes national park You will wake at your own time to take breakfast. Afterwards, go tour around the lake Kivu and marvel at the birds, people and different animals/primates around the Lake. Lake Kivu is a very beautiful and romantic place to be. The government of Rwanda has developed the Lake shores and islands to suite the taste of visitors from around the world. After having enough of Lake Kivu, you will set off for the volcanoes national park for gorilla trekking. Dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge / The 5 Volcanoes Lodge ( Luxury), Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge / Da Vinci Lodge (Mid-range) and The Garden Place Hotel (Budget). Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in the Volcanoes national park – Tour the Iby’iwacu cultural village Briefing for gorilla trekking starts very early and you should be at the park headquarters in Musanze by 7:00 am. Briefing for gorilla tracking is compulsory and an opportunity to register, learn about what gorilla trekking is all about and how to act once you are with the gorillas. It is also during the briefing that you will have an opportunity to choose your preferred gorilla group and hire a porter to help with your backpack. You have 10 habituated gorilla families to choose from during your gorilla safari to Rwanda. Some gorilla families are located nearby while others live or move far into the forest. You need to be very fit to go after those that move deeper into the forest or mountains. Once you find the gorilla family, take as many snaps as you can as you with be with them for only one hour. Follow instructions from your park guide and always remain calm even when a gorilla comes close to you out of curiosity. After your time is done, you should head back to the starting point where your driver guide will be waiting for you. Head back to the lodge and have lunch then rest. In the evening the guide will pick you up and take you to visit to the Iby’iwacu cultural village which is close to the Volcanoes national park. You will be entertained by local Rwandan cultural dances and stories. Dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge / The 5 Volcanoes Lodge ( Luxury), Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge / Da Vinci Lodge (Mid-range) and The Garden Place Hotel (Budget). Day 6: Transfer back to Kigali – Tour of Kigali city – Visit to a genocide memorial site After the demanding gorilla tracking adventure yesterday, you may wake up and take breakfast at your own time. Once you are ready, checkout and prepare to travel back to Kigali. The journey is 2-3 hours and you will bypass beautiful mountainous countryside with endless green plantations. Once in Kigali, you will be taken for a tour of the city of Kigali, the kings palace, local markets and the Gisozi genocide war memorial site. After this, the guide will drive you to the airport for departure or to your hotel if you are still in Rwanda. Note that the city tour will only be carried out if there was no time to do so on the first day of the tour.
